Everybody's Talking, But, Nobody's Listening. Gournes (Γούρνες, Κρήτη) Crete
Another from the disused, almost secret, American base at Gournes (Γούρνες, Κρήτη) Crete. These masts are the most dominant feature at the base and it would seem the best preserved. The rest of the base is looking a bit sorry. It is covered in graffiti and being used in many places as a temporary/permanent home for what looks like immigrants. Some of the building have been reclaimed and made to look nice, but, the whole complex is a bit sad. Anyway here is an aerial view. You can clearly see the masts in the centre of the photo and the remainder of the base surrounding it.

gotten so good at hiding it
even he does not admit it
that glittering flash in his eyes
makes it look like he might be alright
if the blues are you hunter
then you will come face to face
with that darkness and desolation
and the endless depression
but you are not helpless
Alice, Texas was the place. Somewhere I know I will return as it seemed so full of opportunities. Pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but, it had a stack of motels there now offering weekly rates! I'm guessing it may not have always been that way. You just know this place was thriving at some stage. This seemed to tick all the things I love about the US. I need to return. Here is a street view of the place. It doesn't do it justice, but, you might enjoy a poke around.
I have been looking at this empty shell of a hotel for years, for the 12 years I have been going to Crete. I had no idea why it was built as it is in the middle of nowhere. The place is a shell, a shell that was never inhabited, anyway, this trip I made a few enquiries and it seems that many years ago there was talk of a new airport being built in the area and obviously this place was started in anticipation. Now it just sits, a huge lump of concrete used by the locals as storage space. I think that this is the kitchen.

The last thing that I saw
As I lay there on the floor
Was "Jesus Saves" painted by an atheist nutter
And a British Rail poster read "Have an Awayday - a cheap holiday -
Do it today!"
I glanced back on my life
And thought about my wife
'cause they took the keys and she'll think its me
And I'm down in the tube station at midnight
The wine will be flat and the curry's gone cold
I'm down in the tube station at midnight
Don't want to go down in a tube station at midnight
A return to the village of Kato Horio (Κάτω Χωριό) and to an old pharmacy that I discovered a few years ago. I like to revisit these places to see what time and other intruders have done to the place. Thankfully this place had been pretty much left alone, a few bottles smashed and a few other things removed. It was hotter than I remember. Trying to capture it with a different camera, a different perspective was the aim! Here is an aerial view of Kato Horio (Κάτω Χωριό).
Unhappiness where's when I was young
And we didn't give a damn
The Texas Theatre, home of Palestine Community Theatre, is the crown jewel of downtown Palestine. and the finest venue for live entertainment in East Texas. This historic structure, located at 213 W. Crawford St in Palestine, Texas, is a prime example of Spanish Colonial architecture and was designed as an atmospheric movie palace when it opened in 1930. After two devastating fires, and a host of closings and re-openings, the Texas Theatre has been reborn to its new purpose: live theatre.
Here is a street view of the The Texas Theatre and the surrounding area.
Okay, all I remember was I was driving south from Tulsa, OK towards Dallas on Oklahoma State Highway 72 and this is close to a town called Council Hill. There were a lot of vans like this down there - you really wouldn't want to be in one when the wind blows would you! Anyway here is an aerial view of Council Hill and the surrounding area.
We fell through the cracks
