Well yo know what I'm like for bitching about the weather, I really have nothing to moan about. Well I know like a week ago I mentioned that we had been promised an Indian summer. Well, the past week or ten days has been glorious! Dry, calm days, slightly misty to begin with the sun eventually burning that off. God, with talk like that I'll be applying for jobs at the Met Office! I mean we had such a shite summer I had anticipated having to ditch the shorts early this year, but oh no I'm back on track now and in for the long haul, well aiming for the end of October. We shall see.

So to a newish village Stavrohori (Σταυροχώρι) to be exact, I did post one from here a few weeks ago. A place that I have driven through many times but have never stopped. Turned out to be a great place full of empty places. I arrived just at the wrong time really as it was late afternoon and the village was coming to life following the afternoon siesta. Always a difficult time when you are climbing in and out of empty houses. The heat of midday is best although of course the most uncomfortable. Anyway, managed to snatch a few and will return. This particular place was odd in that downstairs it was quite homely and you could really get a sense of how things were organised. Some nice little bunches of plastic flowers add ing some perpetual colour to it's everr fading surroundings. PLastic flowers always make me smile, especially in a climate where you could go and pick flowers all the year around from the siide of the road. That is certainly the case with Crete. Perhaps the previous occupant got old and frail and so needed it in this form. Anyway, the other odd thing about this place was up stairs was a complete contrast in that it had the feel of Cretan village meets East German 60's chic. I did take a few photos up there so I'll let you be the judge should I ever post it. OK so that means a new map, so here is an aerial view of the area.

When you sleep
What do you see
A million stars to wish upon
Or just me

And oh she spoke so softly, to me
As we drifted off, to sleep

When you sleep
What do you see
A million stars you've dreamt upon
Or just me

And oh she spoke so sweetly, to me
As we drifted off, to sleep

And oh she spoke so softly, to me
As we drifted off, to sleep
