Funny kind of day really. Have felt vaguely mentally distracted...not sure what it was. Sort of needed to wander taking photos really but managed precious little of that. Managed a few minutes with the Holga in town after work....to finish a film off really, so was only a few frames. At least I have something to look forward to tomorrow. I suspect it is full of poor unsuspecting elderly people snapped close up eating pork pies or something. I have to admit I am enjoying the challenge of seeing how close I can get and still fire a few frames off. I have discovered I can get very close, the Holga shutter isn't exactly quiet so the failing ears of the elderly are ideal! God, does it feel like I am exploiting them? I guess I am, they are a slow moving at times static subject with failing eyes and ears....perfect! The trouble is I'm not far off of it myself, what with me failing eyes and aching joints. I imagine there is some 16 year old photography student doing just the same to me and I just ain't seeing it.
today's image was taken in the tiny village of Aghios Georgios (Άγιος Γεώργιος) close to the town of Aghios Nikolaos (Άγιος Νικόλαος) it was a village that I visited and photographed a few years ago with 35mm so I thought it would be good to re-visit with the Hasselblad and see what I made of it now. Well the dogs still tried to bite me and it still appeared to be devoid of any human activity even though the signs of habitation were all around me. Perfect conditions if the truth be known...I get to be left alone to shoot...which with me is slow...god am I slow! You wanna see where Aghios Georgios (Άγιος Γεώργιος) is? here is an aerial view of the area.
Once I knew a woman
She loved only me
She knew how to touch
And how to turn to me
She knew how to kiss
And she knew how to whisper
No need to explain how I feel about her
Her hair it was brown
Soft brown in the sun
I could blow it away
When it came down undone
So perfumed and clean
like the snow on a flower
No need to explain
How I feel about her
Her ribbons and lace
We shared in her room
I remember them well
Those long afternoons
Her words falling softly
Like a warm summer shower
No need to explain
How I feel about her
Soon the hay fields will ripen
Soon the berry will show
Then they'll fade into autumn
To lie under the snow
Some years among many
Leave much more to remember
No need to explain
How I feel about her
