Holding On To The Past. Derelict Windmills, Limnes (Λίμνες, Κρήτη) Crete

Yippeeee it's the weekend. Well kind of yippeee. I am off to Crete on Tuesday but there is a stack of bloody stuff to do here. The garden seems to have gone mental of late as a result of all the rain we had. So there are hedges and lawns that need my attention along with 2 ton of books that need putting back after the decorating. I know it's a small price to pay for a week away in the sun. I checked the weather today and the forecast is sun, sun and more sun with temperatures of mid 80's every day. So there will be a sweet reward for all my hard work.
I had some good news this week. I was approached a few weeks ago by a charity The Leprosy Mission abut the possibility of using one of my images on some promotional literature. For free of course which is fine, it's a worthy cause and I will be happy just to see one of my images in print. They want to use this image from Crete. With the possibility of a second image being included, one that I haven't posted here as yet. Anyway I was chuffed so thought I would share the news...after all I am generally a miserable bastard and this almost had me break a smile!

Today's image is from my trip to Crete at Easter and I'm sorry another derelict windmill. Hell, I didn't ought to be apologising yet I have a stack more of these to work into you as and when. The Cretan landscape is littered with these and I really can't help myself when it comes to photographing them. It usually involves the loss of skin getting to them but always worth it. I guess it is testament to how the wind blows on Crete the fact that there were so many of them. These days the modern wind farm is cropping up here there and everywhere....no match for these in the attractiveness stakes in my opinion. This one is part of a little group of six that are perched on the hillside above the village of Limnes (Λίμνες) and if you have an interest here is an aerial shot of the area. Limnes is off to the left a way.

You did know that there was a competition going on didn't you? No? Well get yourself back there and enter. Top prize is a print and life long friendship from me. I'm even contemplating offering a 2nd and 3rd prize. Pondering that one. There aren't many days left, I'm not sure how many but not many, so get a voting NOW!

Last night
I dreamed that I was dreaming of you
And from a window across the lawn I watched you undress
Wearing a sunset of purple tightly woven around your hair
That rose and strangled ebony curls moving in a yellow bedroom light
The air is wet with sound
The faraway yelping of a wounded dog
And the ground is drinking a slow faucet leak
Your house is so soft and fading as it soaks the black summer heat
A light goes on and a door opens
And a yellow cat runs out on the stream of hall light and into the yard
A wooden cherry scent is faintly breathing the air
I hear your champagne laugh
You wear two lavender orchids one in your hair and one on your hip
A string of yellow carnival lights comes on with the dusk
Circling the lake in a slow dipping halo
And I hear a Banjo tango
And you dance into the shadow of a Black Poplar Tree
I watched you as you disappeared
I watched you as you disappeared
I watched you as you disappeared...
