An uneventful day today, which is nice. The aching has subsided now to slight discomfort however I'm sure I have broken a rib, only because I recognise the pain from the last time. That just hurts and isn't going away. I'm not coughing blood so I've assumed that the cracked rib isn't poking through one of my lungs. I mean, I'm not a doctor, can I make those assumptions? Hey I'm sure I convinced a girl years ago that I was a doctor so I guess I must be. So this will ache for months which is good for me as if things dry up here I can always use that to moan about.
Hell there was a good thing to tell you in the midst of this decorating nightmare. I got to go into work late today because of the decorator. Jan was in bed so I needed to be here...which was cool as the extra hour in bed was sooo good! He seems to be cracking on with it so I guess all the books can go back in a few days. Just in time for me to flee the country for a week.
Hell, I thought I had no news, now I have loads...I must have been dreaming. Seven of my films that were from my last trip were in such a mess I took them back over a month ago to be re-washed and scanned. The scans they supplied were so dirty it was taking about an hour on each scan to spot out the crap. Anyhow...4 weeks and all I was getting was bullshit as to the whereabouts of the films. I was convinced that they had lost them. Anyhow they found them again today, or at least that's what they are saying...we shall see...good news at the moment anyway.

Today's photo is from my most recent trip to Crete and an early morning excursion up to the Katharo Plateau (Οροπέδιο Καθαρού, Λασίθι Κρήτης). It was I must say a welcome escape from the 44 degree heat that was plaguing us at the time. I love it up there, a place where I feel a different person....the only noise is the wind and birds. No traffic and not even the screaming of the Cicadas that is everywhere when the temperatures rise.
Here, the sky, ravines and bushes are still adorned with vultures, harrier eagles, cuckoos, ferrets, and unique yellow roses, while the scent of dictamus and other herbs like "thriba" fills the air. In the serenity of the holm oaks, and other tree species such as Asfentamus, Ambelitsas, Antrikukias, Aloutsouna, Stamnagathi, and among the mountain and rock thyme, part of the essence of the people from Kritsa belongs.

You did know that there was a competition going on didn't you? No? Well get yourself back there and enter. Top prize is a print and life long friendship from me. I'm even contemplating offering a 2nd and 3rd prize. Pondering that one. There aren't many days left, I'm not sure how many but not many, so get a voting NOW!

I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything

what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt
