So tonight was the semi final for The Eurovision Song Contest. I'm not going to pretend to fully understand why the system is as it is but tonight's semi final sing off was between 28 countries they were singing for the 10 remaining places in Saturday's final. As I understand it 14 countries are already in the final, 4 get in every year by right UK, France, Spain and Germany. Now this alone sounds well dodgy! They justified it tonight by saying they get through by right due to their substantial financial contribution...yeah right! The other 10 sides already in the final consist of the winner from last year plus the other top 9 placed sides. Together with tonight's 10 chosen ones makes a grand total of 24 for Saturday.
The British entry I feel is destined to not win...from what I have heard it will be very lucky to be in the top 5, perhaps even then I am being a tad generous! So for your enjoyment here are Scooch singing Flying The Flag (for you). It feels like in desperation we have gone back to a early 80's formula, still the program is worth watching in my humble opinion just to witness the antics of the UK presenter Terry Wogan. Check out the link and listen to some of his best lines.

Other things of note happening today: Had a long over due haircut, picked up two processed films which look kinda nice, finally managed to process some images that caused me grief for some reason, three application forms received for jobs (not sure if that is good), found a very nice tomato and meatball sauce in the freezer which streamlined supper a treat, had one very large gin and tonic, 3 very large glasses of wine (red), shouted at the TV for a while and am now on my second whiskey...with water. The only thing I am way behind with is visiting all your blogs but I'm onto it either now or in the morning...shit it is tomorrow already!

As for today's photo....well it was taken very close to the pool from yesterday and is the first from the almost secret old American base in Gournes (Γούρνες, Κρήτη) Crete. I have no idea what this structure was used for but it appears to have been a watch tower of some description. Very close to it are some massive transmitter masts or something. I guess that there is no reason for it to be secret as it's not obvious what it is anyway. I'm hoping that my friend 'Roy The Cretan' will be able to explain all to us...you may have seen his comments from time to time here. He was stationed at the base for many years. Perhaps he won't be allowed to tell us. Anyway here is an aerial view. You can clearly see the masts in the centre of the photo and the remainder of the base surrounding it.

OK I thought a little blatant self promotion was in order, so I have posted a photo over at JPG Mag if you dig it then tell them!

BBC correspondent Alan Johnston was abducted in Gaza on 12th March 2007. Why not sign the Petition in the hope that it will assist with his early release.
