OK guys I'm out of here for two weeks, off to the beautiful Island of Crete. I have no bloody job and I think Jan was beginning to tire of me under her feet already so she told me to bugger off there for two weeks....sorted! I will be staying as always in the beautiful mountain village of Kritsa (Κριτσά). I have tried to attach a map of where I am located which is tricky as the satellite maps available aren't very good, still this one sort of shows you with a little imagination. If you look at the cross shaped building that is a large church. If you come to 7 o'clock for about an inch you will see a small grey rectangular building, that is an even smaller church and the house is overlooking that. Bored yet? I'll shut up!
The idea is to post probably every other day....perhaps more frequently and I will try to add some text whilst there if I have anything to say, well I guess I always have something to just very little of it has any substance! So, we'll see how it goes and if it all goes tits up whilst there I'll have to make it up as I go along.

1800 Friday 23rd - OK I might have made a slight mistake with the comment regarding Belgian beer....perhaps we could agree that they make pretty good beer....perhaps even on a par with British beer, just different!
Well what a morning I had today, I'm not sure if I mentioned it before but I never eat lunch and haven't done for about 10 years. I bend the rule at Christmas and very occasionally over here. So we have these Jahovah's Witness neighbours who are in their 70's and have kind of taken us on as children as they have none of their own. As you might be able to imagine a witness over here is very unusual in a country that is ninety odd precent Orthodox! Anyway they are as poor as poor, living eating eand sleeping in 2 rooms about 10 feet square. They have nothing but their generosity of spirit makes me ashamed to have what I do. So today was lunch with them which is quite difficult as they speak no English and my Greek is well...let's just say it needs improvement! So they feed me enough food to last me to the end of the holiday and beyond, ply me with drink and send me on my way by rolling me out of the door.
So....we have another neighbour over the back of the house, Katerina, who communicates to me by screaming from her balcony as loud as she is able until you hear her. I needed a walk to get the food shifted when I hear her screaming...having not said hello I go knocking on her door bearing gifts, she ushers me into a house that makes Sophia and Dimirtis' house look like a palace. She tell me to sit down as she is eating and perhaps I would like some lunch! LUNCH! I can bearly walk...I protest that I have eaten to no avail, well at least I think that was what I was saying....she did have a rather cheeky smile on her face for a 70 year old so perhaps I was offering her something else! Anyway she ignored me and dished me up what she said was a little food...being a polite boy I ate it...so she gave me more, then 3 oranges which she peeled for me...I swear I don't look as if I need feeding up....oh and two more glasses of wine! Having lost the will to live she asks me if I have a car...and so off we go to her little plot of land where she picks a sack of greens and oranges...I had a feeling that she was feeding me up for something, I had taken on the role of donkey I think, thank god it was only a lift! I've come here top tell you this and can't even face a beer...not even Belgian!
I am supposed to be eating supper in a few hours....for the love of God someone help me.....I'd hate you all to think I am having fun. Photos taken today = Nil!

1300 Saturday 24th - OK update.....time to moan about the weather, it's now been raining for 14 hours and torrential at that....the house is beginning to let the water in, well just a tiny bit. Katerina tried to atract my attention this morning by tapping on the window with a long stick from her balcony...thought it was pay back time for the lunch yesterday so I ignored her. Bless her she braved the rain to bring me dolmades(stuffed cabbage leaves) and boiled potatoes for my breakfast...yummy!
Ventured out in the rain my god, I have never seen anything like it...every road is flooded, every field like a lake and the river beds that we have never seen water in in 10 years of coming here are so full and raging torrents....brown swirling water that looks something like the Colorado river in full swing! The roads are covered in rocks and debris. Now a lot of the roads here are great but they really don't take into account when making them where flood water may need to go, consequently the water goes nowhere....just sits about 2 feet deep....was that a moan? Not sure......anyway more updates to come. Happy Saturday peeps....sorry not repying to your comments...will get to you when I get home.

Why not spoil yourself and take a look at the nominations for the 2007 Photobloggies. You won't be disappointed. It's an honour to be amongst such talent!
