A lot of the houses in the North East of Crete have detail in the architecture that draws heavily on French influence...or so I am told by a local architect! Shutters and grilles on windows....a lot of this originates from the 50's and 60's. I don't care where it comes from, I love it and the fact that they have let it stay and gradually decay is wonderful in my eyes. I guess one day soon as the island becomes more and more popular it will become increasingly more tidy....hey I hope I am dead before that happens! If I wanted it to be like here I would stay here.
