Yet another one of those special moments. Jan and I were about to leave what seemed to be photographicaly a rather boring village. Very familair scenario, we spoke little Greek he no English.
He asked us to follow him to what can best be described as a close to derilict shed with the roof falling in. I asked if I could take photos and he said no! He then started to fire up the forge...then clearing space for both Jan and I to sit. The on went the leather apron...then he said...now you may take photos! The forge looked as if it hadn't been used in many years yet he had it up and running in about 10 minutes, we both watched in wonder as he fashioned nails for us. A very special hour.
The only downside was my lack of flash.....lack of film so I was stuck with half a roll of 400 XP2 and a roll of 100 Provia and no tripod! Still I am just grateful to have been there
